Preparation

Before you start cleaning your carpet, be sure you have all the tools needed to do so.

Carpet steamers are one of the best ways to get the job done. Most hardware stores allow you to rent one or to keep money in your pocket annually, look into investing in one for your own home. Typically the most you will pay for a quality machine ranges around $200 at most stores. Carpet steamers are beneficial because they are excellent at killing those lingering germs.

Purchasing a carpet cleanser that deodorizes, cleans, and is consistent with your carpet is highly recommended. Have pets? There are even cleansers that work specifically to neutralize urine and feces. Also, make sure that you read the label carefully to see if the solution of your choice can also be used for spot cleaning.

One of the most key elements to cleaning your carpet is to ensure everything is out of the way. Ask a pal or family to help you clear out large pieces of furniture to get in those spots of your home that have been neglected.

Dusting and Vacuuming

Getting rid of dust and other particles with a powerful vacuum like our VSM 6000 allows the cleanser and steam to elevate the cleaning process even more. Use your vacuum over the entire carpet to ensure that loose debris is removed as much as possible. Additionally, utilize vacuum attachments in every crevice, windowsill, and all overhead fixtures efficiently. This will help with eliminating dust from the room.

Be sure to spot clean areas with the appropriate solution carefully following the instructions provided by the label. Do this by applying cleanser to a clean towel and then dabbing areas with stains. Spot cleaning assists with stain lifting when using the steamer.

Follow your Steams!

Now that you are ready to steam, mix the cleaning solution per the instructions given for both the machine and the solution label. Apply it to the steamer and wait for the appliance to reach the correct temperature provided in the instructions. Then, prepare to steam slowly, navigating from one corner of the room to the other. Make your movements smooth and proportionate and cover each section.

After steam cleaning your carpet, make certain the space steamed is as dry as possible. Moisture left over can lead to mold and bacteria build-up. Placing fans in the room’s entrance can assist in speeding up the drying process. After you let your carpet properly dry, run the vacuum over the area again to eliminate dust or dirt that may have stuck to the carpet while drying.
