New Spin on Laundry

BY TOBI ELKIN

“We must exceed consumers’ expectations.”

As retailers this month await shipment of the first horizontal-axis (h-axis) washer from a U.S. vendor, they have plenty of standard, vertical-axis laundry options to show consumers. Recent offerings from appliance vendors underscore American consumers’ consistent desire for large washer capacity, gentler cleaning, user-

friendly controls, a larger dryer door opening and easy-to-clean lint filters.

Equator Corp. introduced its EZ 3600C, a 13-lb. capacity h-axis combination washer/dryer. This washer uses about 13 gallons of water, compared to the 41 to 49 gallons used by conventional units. The EZ 3600C is ventless and ideal for tight spaces. The unit offers five wash and rinse cycles and five wash/rinse water temperature settings. Equator’s EZ 1500 is already selling at Montgomery Ward and Incredible Universe stores.
